In 2018, Nigeria imported goods worth $ 43 billion. The top imported product to Nigeria in 2018 (29%) was commodity group 2710 "Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, other than crude; preparations not elsewhere specified or included, containing by weight 70 % or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the preparations; waste oils." - the value of imports of this category was equal to 12.4 billion USD.

Also, structure of Imports to Nigeria in 2018 includes the following principal commodities:

  • 9.11% ($ 3.92 billion) - 8905 - Light-vessels, fire-floats, dredgers, floating cranes and other vessels the navigability of which is subsidiary to their main function; floating docks; floating or submersible drilling or production platforms.
  • 3.15% ($ 1.35 billion) - 1001 - Wheat and meslin.
  • 2.82% ($ 1.21 billion) - 8703 - Motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than those of heading 87.02), including station wagons and racing cars.
  • 1.63% ($ 701 million) - 8711 - Motorcycles (including mopeds) and cycles fitted with an auxiliary motor, with or without side-cars; side-cars.
  • 1.49% ($ 641 million) - 0303 - Fish, frozen, excluding fish fillets and other fish meat of heading 03.04.
  • 1.26% ($ 544 million) - 8517 - Electrical apparatus for line telephony or line telegraphy, including line telephone sets with cordless handsets and telecommunication apparatus for carrier-current line systems or for digital line systems; videophones.
  • 1.22% ($ 526 million) - 1701 - Cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose, in solid form.
  • 1.06% ($ 458 million) - 3004 - Medicaments (excluding goods of heading 30.02, 30.05 or 30.06) consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses (including those in the form of transdermal administration systems) or in forms or packings for retail sale.
  • 0.999% ($ 430 million) - 7208 - Flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, of a width of 600 mm or more, hot-rolled, not clad, plated or coated.
