In 2019, Rwanda imported goods worth $ 3.19 billion. The top imported product to Rwanda in 2019 (15.1%) was commodity group 2710 "Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, other than crude; preparations not elsewhere specified or included, containing by weight 70 % or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the preparations; waste oils." - the value of imports of this category was equal to 484 million USD.

Also, structure of Imports to Rwanda in 2019 includes the following principal commodities:

  • 7.57% ($ 242 million) - 7108 - Gold (including gold plated with platinum) unwrought or in semi-manufactured forms, or in powder form.
  • 2.56% ($ 81 million) - 3004 - Medicaments (excluding goods of heading 30.02, 30.05 or 30.06) consisting of mixed or unmixed products for therapeutic or prophylactic uses, put up in measured doses (including those in the form of transdermal administration systems) or in forms or packings for retail sale.
  • 2.35% ($ 75 million) - 1701 - Cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose, in solid form.
  • 2.15% ($ 68 million) - 8525 - Transmission apparatus for radio-telephony, radio-telegraphy, radio-broadcasting or television, whether or not incorporating reception apparatus or sound recording or reproducing apparatus; television cameras; still image video cameras and other video camera recorders; digital cameras.
  • 1.98% ($ 63 million) - 1511 - Palm oil and its fractions, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified.
  • 1.72% ($ 55 million) - 1006 - Rice.
  • 1.67% ($ 53 million) - 2523 - Portland cement, aluminous cement, slag cement, supersulphate cement and similar hydraulic cements, whether or not coloured or in the form of clinkers.
  • 1.64% ($ 52 million) - 1001 - Wheat and meslin.
  • 1.42% ($ 45 million) - 8402 - Steam or other vapour generating boilers (other than central heating hot water boilers capable also of producing low pressure steam); super-heated water boilers.
